WE WANT A CAPTAIN, NOT AN UMPIRE!

Dr Man Mohan Singh has become a liability even for the Congress party which selected him for the PM post over other worthies.  Just look at the mess he has landed the Govt and his party in, by his actions and inactions.   He has this habit of doing nothing when serious mischief is going on right under his nose.  Remember the Harshad Mehta scam?  As FM he looked the other way when the unscrupulous broker was rigging the nations stock exchanges.  He defended his inaction then with the famous quote "I can't lose sleep if the stock market goes up by a few points!"  This was refuted by the Supreme Court which said "Surely when the stock market fluctuated so violently in such a short time, some bells must have rung to wake the FM from his slumber.."
In his AVATAR as PM now, he has gone on to ignore scam after scam (CWG, 2G, ISRO and now CVC - to name a few).  It is as though in his Govt just anybody can do anything, and get away with it, till they are caught by the ever vigilant media.

On the other hand, what exactly has he contributed the nation in spite of getting 2 continuous terms in the most powerful position of the country?  Except for the dubious nuclear deal, NOTHING.   The least he could have done was to push through the promised reforms.  He has not even made an attempt to do so.  All his failures he has blamed on the coalition compulsion.   But this compulsion did not deter him from pushing for the nuclear deal.   A visionary head of state can and will find means to push for legislations and changes that he really thinks are required for public good.  Look at Obama in USA.  With far less majority and the Republicans capable of blocking him in the Senate, he has pushed through several measures.  I am not arguing these are right or wrong, but the fact is that Obama was pro-active and did what he wanted.

Except in the case of nuclear deal, our PM has been twiddling his thumbs and lurching from controversy to contraversy.   And, to top it, he is keeping his own counsel and hardly ever addresses the nation and shares his thoughts with the people.  Really, do we need such a reclusive head of state?  What we need is a playing captain, not a Third Umpire who sits at a remote place and doesnot get involved till the matter is referred to him.  And under him, even his party, i.e. Congress is losing ground.  Hope Sonia Gandhi will decide to get rid of thie Non Performing Asset before it is too late.

FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS

Suprement Court has come down heavily against the Govt appointing Mr.Thomas as CVC.  He should resign.  Agreed.  But the media is going to town pilloring Thomas as the fountainhead of all corruption, and infamy.   Spare a thought to the poor man!  What has he, personally, done wrong?  He simply applied for the job for which he believed he was eligible.   It was for the Govt to verify his credentials and reject him.  Instead, they went ahead and appointed him, even arrogantly ignoring the objections of the leader of the opposition.  For this, the Govt, especially the PM and the Home Minister should be made to resign.  Why are they being let off and poor Thomas is made to listen to all the music?

DHONIS ADVENTURE

Dhoni is known for his adroitness in handling press and pressure, but I think he was a bit adventuruous in his Press Conference the other day when he attacked the the UDRS.  As a playing captain what he says is very significant.  For that reason he should have chosen to control his emotions, especially when the outcome of the match itself has not significantly affected India's chances for QF berth.   The time to speak was when the rules for UDRS was being framed.  At that time both the BCCI and influential people like Dhoni allowed the 2.5 Meter rule to stay.  If it is a silly rule, why did BCCI allow it to be there?  Even now, the matter should have been taken up at the appropriate level for redressal in future, rather than making an outburst in a Press conference.  It was also tactically a bad stroke to rub unpire Bowden on the wrong side.

For a man who asks Sreeshanth to keep his emotions under control, to fall into the media trap and make loose comments like this is, to say the least, rather unbecoming.

And lo! and behold! Who is upset with Dave Richardson rapping Dhoni on the knuckles?  Dhoni's boss in IPL - Mr.Srinivasan, the BCCI Secretary.  And BCCI has decided to up the ante with ICC on a a frivolous and inconsequential cause.  Unfathomable indeed are the games these great men play!!
