I do not know who is the corporator representing my ward. I am sure this is the case with most of us. Every few years a few guys get elected as Corporators, and they in turn elect a Mayor. They share the mayor-ship among various categories for a fixed number of years, like a schedule caste corporator should be mayor for 2 years, and then a woman coporator will get a chance for next 2 years. In all this, the interests of the public is given the go bye. The whole system is faulty. We should have a mayor directly elected by the electorate (like other major cities in the world), and he should be given a fixed term to implement his policies. The present system only helps the corporators to harvest his constituency during his term. Actually the politicians learn their corrupt ways from the corporator kinder-garten, before they graduate to future Kalmadies and Rajas!!
